Our Tenants’ Safety is Always Our Top Priority at Cortland Student Rentals

Cortland State off campus housing options 09

The Coronavirus pandemic a severe health threat across the country, and Cortland Student Rentals is, as always, focusing on the safety and health of our student tenants. Because of the close community, College towns can be breeding grounds for any kind of virus, particularly in dormitories. Living in one of our student apartments for rent near Cortland State student apartments 08SUNY Cortland, however, gives you some added protection by giving you a safe and secure place to live without having to share crowded dining halls, showers, and other spaces. Having your own apartment is just the beginning, however, of protecting yourself and your roommates during the COVID-19 outbreak.

We’ve put together a list of suggestions to keep yourself safe and healthy during the coming months:

Maintain Social Distancing

Living in an apartment means you’ll periodically be in each other’s space but try to minimize this whenever possible. It’s easy to carry on conversations and even enjoy a meal together while keeping at least six feet away from each other. Do NOT invite friends over to your apartment. Keep in mind that every person in your apartment also potentially exposes you to every other person they came in contact with over the last two weeks.

It’s easy to social distance when you’re living in one of our apartments for rent in Cortland because every bedroom is individually wired for Internet access and cable. There’s no need to leave your room to study, stay in touch with friends online, or do some  Netflix and chilling. With keyed locks on every bedroom door, you also don’t have to worry about others going into your bedroom and using your stuff or potentially exposing you to additional germs.

When going outside, maintain your distance and only go out when you must for the essentials or a walk to get some fresh air. If you can, wear a mask when you leave your apartment. If it is reusable, wash it between each wearing. If you don’t have a mask, wear a bandana around your mouth and nose.

Clean, Clean, Clean!

Everyone coming into or out of any student apartments for rent in Cortland should wash their hands as soon as they enter the apartment. While our apartments are thoroughly cleaned before new tenants move in, keeping things clean is crucial to good health in the wake of the Coronavirus.  Wash your hands with hot, soapy water several times a day, and any time you handle something that has been brought into the apartment. Wipe down any high-touch items at least twice a day with a disinfecting wipe with bleach. Things you should be regularly wiping down include:

  • Light switches
  • Refrigerator, oven, microwave and other small appliances
  • Remote controls
  • Telephones
  • Computers and tablets
  • Car keys
  • Doorknobs
  • Countertops
  • Tables

Clean your bathroom and kitchen daily, if at all possible. If you can’t do a complete cleaning, at least wipe down the faucets and countertops.

When you bring groceries into your apartment or a package is delivered, wipe surfaces down with disinfecting wipes.

Laundry Procedures

All our student apartments for rent in Cortland feature laundry facilities located somewhere in the apartment or house. If you share the washer and dryer with other tenants, be sure you wipe down the washer and dryer controls with disinfecting wipes before using the machines. You can also protect yourself by wearing disposable gloves while doing laundry. Use the hottest water possible and bleach when appropriate to wash clothes.
